The Berkshire Badgers battled throughout but ultimately fell 7-3 in a hard-fought contest marked by timely hitting from the opposition and flashes of offense from the Badgers.
The Chagrin Falls struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a hit-by-pitch, a single, and a defensive miscue to take an early 1-0 lead. Berkshire looked to answer in the bottom half, but strong pitching early limited the Badgers’ opportunities despite a base runner.
After a quiet second and third inning, the Tigers extended their lead in the fourth. A combination of walks and clutch hits led to a four-run inning, putting Berkshire behind 4-0.
The Badgers responded in the bottom of the fourth with some life at the plate. Oliver Miller sparked the inning with a double, and Evan Pollock followed with an RBI single to get Berkshire on the board. Moments later, Bear Masink reached on an error that allowed another run to score, trimming the deficit to 4-2.
The lead grew again in the fifth as Chagrin Falls added two more runs, followed by a solo home run in the sixth to make it 7-2.
Berkshire continued to compete late, putting together a scoring opportunity in the sixth inning. Back-to-back singles from Holden Hedrick and Miller set the table, and Masink drove in a run with a groundout to cut the score to 7-3. However, the Badgers were unable to string together a bigger rally.
Offensively, Miller led the way with multiple hits, while Pollock and Masink each contributed an RBI. Despite late efforts, Berkshire couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
The Badgers will look to build on the positives and even the season series with Chagrin Falls today.
